My own experience from Feb 2006 when I first tried, was that I was not allowed to open an account at Itau, Bradesco, Bank of Brasil, Banco Real, Caixa Economica, SudAmeris, Unibanco, and a few other smaller ones, without my RNE residents number.
If Shawn can enlighten us on where to apply and be accepted, without the risk of the account being closed for the reasons that Ralph has quoted, I would really like to know. Naturally I do not wish to deny Shawn his fee for helping my clients, because as he says, he is making his living helping people with CPFs, and bank account opening, but if on the other hand one pays a fee and then it proves that the client cannot open his account, is the fee returned?
There are companies here charging up to 2000R$ for obtaining the CPF number! The form is available on line from the Receita Federal site, and then it costs R$5.50 as Ralph as said.
