If you are looking for a Tropical beach, just forget about mosquitos & dengue, specially during the raining season. They are everywhere, except West coast of Australia (not sure if Perth region is tropical) and Peru. Mediterranean is obviously not Tropical. Check the link below, dengue map from wikipedia:

JM, regarding the "Gourmet Dish" thing: mosquitos are really nasty folks, they harass the newcomers. Fist time I visited my wife's city, countryside of RS, "borrachudos" (not dengue type, but the bulliest one), abuse me all week long, but just me, nobody else!? Their sting were painful. Second time there, I basically didn't notice them, third time? None! Today they don't even care to drop me an email..., You British can literally say: bloody mosquitos!!
