There are several different types of Dengue. The vast majority of Dengue are not comfortable but they are also not fatal. Of the 24000 reported cases of Dengue 800 were reported to be the nasty kind of which only 90 were confirmed and whereas 47 deaths were suspected to be related to Haemmorhagic Dengue, only three were confirmed.

Don't put too much faith in respect to stats about this kind of thing. Until recently no one knew that Sergipe had the 2nd largest outbreak of dengue in Brazil only behind Rio. They weren't reporting the numbers. And the number of hemormorhagic dengue cases has been alarming. There are no more beds in the hospitals, and haven't been for quite a while, in Aracaju because of dengue.
