Not sure where the thread is myself, but I can confirm that you will need to give PoA to a lawyer over there to act on your behalf if you're not available to be present yourself. We have just returned from the solicitors office where a notary public witnessed and signed our Power of Attorney at the cost of £110, so be prepared! I now have to send it to the Foreign Commonwealth office in London, as it is too far away, by registered post (both ways) and £27. When I receive it back from them it then has to be posted to the Egyptian Consulate, again by registered post (both ways) and a further £20. Finally we have to post it back to our solicitors office in Egypt, again either by registered post, DHL or similar. Be prepared, these little bits and pieces soon add up.
