Los Angles - São Pàulo direct route announced.
Korean Air to Launch Nonstop Service from Los Angeles to Brazil LA's largest transpacific airline will operate the only nonstop flight to Sao Paulo - China Newswire - Social Media Press Release Distribution Service for China
However it still leaves the passenger with a minimum of around 9 hours extra on the journey! I dont know if Forteleza has a direct link to the USA. It will certainly be interesting to see how Natal develops with the new airport. It may become a much more important commercial link particularly because of the freight handling hub for the whole of South America. The ability the take the new 800 seater Airbus will also place us on the map here and airlines will have to take note. I believe these are all positives for Natal.

Any idea of a MIA-NE Brazil direct anytime in the near future?

Delta/Northwest recently announced they were looking to start a direct Atlanta to Recife flight at the end of this year. Will not help you a great deal in Florida, Rai, but the rest of America should benefit...

Hi Ray,
TAM fly from Miami to North East Brazil without having to fly direct to Sao Paulo or Rio first before back up to the North East. It does a few drop offs/ pick ups on the way down to Sao Paulo. It stops off in Belem then to Fortaleza then another city (not sure which one) before Sao Paulo. I ve spoken to a few US citzens in Fortaleza before who had told me this.

Thanks guys and please, I go by Ray...

And I'm already aware of the Salvador-Mia direct. I also heard it's always booked so you must reserve a seat at least 2/3 months out. Like I said, if Tam, Gol, American or United offered a direct Miami-Recife... that would be wonderful because most guys I know won't do the Mia-SP-Recife when he can fly Mia-Santiago/Mexico/CR/Panama/Colombia in 3-5 hours and no layovers compared to 16+ hours Miami-Northeast Brazil. The only other option is Tam's Miami to Manaus, then it stops off in Belem, Fortaleza, Natal, then finally Recife. Totalling 18 hours! Miami-Slavador is about as good as you can get then connecting to Recife/northeast Brazil.

Mr. Bush, about all the hype in Natal and their so-called international airport. They been selling that BS since 1999. I'll believe it when I see it. Because of the flights or lack there of... this is why you have a lot more Euros investing in northeast Brazil. Ralph, I guarantee you if we had a direct flight form Miami, a lot more Americans would be giving Euros stiff buying competition.

Does anyone recall when they terminated the Mia-Recife direct... was it 1998? And which airline was it?

Is there an easier route from Natal to New York instead of going to S.P?

Sounds about right Ray - nearly 10 years to get started -the new bridge was the same story. However, the news is full of updates and photos showing the reality is that building is well underway for the main runway, and the money has been granted. I posted the link for the article earlier.(23rd May edition Tribuna do Norte. I am sure as well that the American buyers will arrive as soon as there is a shorter route than São Paulo.

Default Concession to Private Sector

Well, it really seems that the airport will be a concession to the private sector . The Edital to choose the firms that will recommend the terms of concession has already three groups qualified for the study, i.e.:

- CONCREMAT – INNOVA: Innova Aviation Consulting LLC e Concremat Engenharia e Tecnologia S.A.
- INECO & SETEPLA: Ineco – Ingeniería y Economía Del Transporte S.A. e Setepla Tecnometal Engenharia Ltda.
- POTIGUAR: Ernst & Young Assessoria Empresarial Ltda, Aeroservice Consultoria e Engenharia de Projetos Ltda e CELP Consultoria Técnico Comercial Ltda.

The whole process can be checked here:
BNDES: Editais

Main guess is that will open the door for private capital to finance the construction too.

Mr. Bush, and 10 years way to long.... To those of you who live, work, turn a profit in Brazil -- you have my full 100% respect!

Seems like a lot of stress trying to make it as a Gringo in Brazil. Personally, I'd rather work in the US and enjoy life SOTB.

It does seem insane that the 4th largest developing world economy has such an archaic airline infrastructure and route network. Unusual for me to say so but this is a positive as it can really only go one way. But, there has to be a good reason for this lack of flights from US and EU to NE brazil, be it Natal/FTZ or Recife? Whatever the reason it tells me is that those involved in NE Brazil should be lobbying every which way but how to get the point over. The other option is a hub in Caracas or nearby.....only 4/5 hours to Miami/Canary Islands and Natal/Recife....if anyone has a direct line to Hugo Chavez, maybe this is the route to go ...maybe you could call it EasyOil.
