I am an old traveller of Jeri,18 yrs to be precise! So I have seen it change from the indiginous period to today and I am completely for the preservation of such a magical place, even though it has grown ,but at a controlled pace.
It still has it's charm and natural landscapes that are the best in the world. Every visitor to Brasil, must go there to experience it. Of course the whole costal area has marvellous places to visit with outstanding natural beauty and fabulous food too!

I know Fortaleza and Natal.

Both cities average at best. Fortaleza, I think a better place to invest. Now, Sao Luis is virgin! You can buy cheap in SL right on the Beach -- less than $40,000us!!!

Belem is another area virgin!!! NO GRINGOS....

Check it out!!!

Ray,

Sao Luis is marvellous the reggae capital of Brasil !They have some great parties in Alcantra(at least they used to) I can tell you ,but quite a trek not ideal for the average beach package holiday maker, but the backpacker! We get so bogged down with Natal, when really Brasil is so amazing and so diverse and not just a tiny coast of RGN that we ramble on about.

São Luis and Belém are indeed great places but you need to bear in mind that.. they are hotter, there is more humidity and vast rainy seasons and have less infrastructure than for example the likes of Fortaleza. If there are no gringos then the property prices don't rise hence the low buy price on the beach...but also a weaker investment.

Back to flights...

Just returned from a week in Europe. Used Condor, Recife to Frankfurt on Mon 23rd June, returned today. Both planes absolutely crammed, main languages English, German and (Brazilian) Portuguese plus a few other nationalities.

Appeared passengers were a mixed bag of all types of travellers, with perhaps fewer 'cheap' package holiday makers than I had expected (without meaning to be disrespectful), plus 'first class' was full.

No real evidence of a downturn in visitors to the NE of Brasil on these flights off season...

NO GRINGOS means virgin! Gringos (we) drive up prices.... sadly. It's good and bad. SL and Belem are virgin areas, RE is cheap. Guys, this is secret info I am giving up right here on Totallyproperty.com!!!

Humidity is a little high but doesn't bother me.

Amapa is also VIRGIN! Manaus too!

Natal is overrun, overpiced and a rip off. Brazilians rip foreigners off all the time (What else is new! Welcome to Brazil!), and it's never reported. Very few people come on Forums like me and divulge how they got scammed/screwed over.

Sorry, that is my opinion.

Default Madrid flight to Natal cancelled !

The good news with it is that due to the short time left and to the fact that, according to Spanish Law, a change of that sort entitles the client to cancell the trip and since they are cheaper alternative offers ( as Mexico and Dominican Rep ), we are going to see some cheap prices to Natal as last minute offers.
Well , now it is OUT.

This controversial flight MAD - NAT will not take place.
CLUB DE VACACIONES got plenty of trouble selling it.
The clients insisting are offered a TAP solution, but most of them are to be sent to Punta Cana or Mexico.

They do not have any plans for NATAL for the winter either !

Natal could be over for them for a while.

This is bad news and in a best case scenario TAP flights are going to be more expensive.

The latest I have heard on Thomson flights to Natal which correlates with what other people have said on this forum is the following:

Thomson asked to get 2 slots per week to keep their crew costs down, but Natal Airport was very slow in giving an answer, so Thomson asked Salvador and they said no problem.
Thomson then told Natal Airport to forget it and decided not to come at all this year. Natal Airport, presumably after getting a lot of abuse from the tourism minister, hotel groups etc.. went to Thomson cap in hand saying yes to two flights a week. Thomson came back and said ok but not until 2009, so no thomson/firstchoice until 2009.
