it depends what your income is because you are going to need a morgage where ever you go. and also how flexible your work is in relation to where you can choose as the morgage has to be paid regularly or the banks will take back the property and you will lose your house and your deposit.
What line of work do you do ?

I think it is very important to know what area you want to buy. Yu speak in dollars. Even if not in UK & Ireland I think you would be better to wait as I personally think no one can value property in any of these locations and better value will be had for the person willing to wait.

Are you in America?
Surely there are alot of foreclosures, go and buy one of these, sort out the mortgage you are allowed.
Even go to auctions in the US they are sure to be some deals. And perhaps your parents, partner or other family and friends may assist or go in with you.

Patience, why rush out and buy on a downward trend. sure you can buy maybe 20% cheaper than they were. what if they drop anther 20% as is likely as we still do not have clarity on the sub prime effect. My advice, sit tight until you can make an informed decision, furthermore the market has not matured enough in terms of distressed sellers. People still have available mney on credit cards etc, wait til these are exhausted more.

Default I want to buy a house

Hi, you really have a good thinking. It’s a different fun having your own house. I bought a home last year with the help of Real Cheap Estate and right now I don’t have any complains. They specialize in selling discount homes and land at affordable prices. Every home they sell can be purchased in cash or sometimes with finance!!! The balance is usually under $10,000. They also sell Real Estate Notes. Visit their site realcheapestate. Hope this will be helpful to you too.
Good luck!

Your only option is to go where you can find work. You must have a salary in order to pay your mortgage.

So get the work situation straightened out and look at property near enough to your job to commute in a reasonable time frame.

Often, first houses aren't nearly as nice as you would like. You start small and work your way up until you can get that dream house.

I am going to politely disagree with D H. I think this is an excellent tiem to buy in the USA. Not only have prices dropped, but sellers are feeling very insecure, so they are willing to consider low offers. If you get the right price now, you are still covered if prices go down more. Also, prices will not stay down. There is already pent-up demand, and real estate is always a cycle. Once it hits the low point, it turns around and heads upwards again.

I agree real estate is a cycle, but normally a 10 year one if we look at UK, Japan or Holland who previously had booms. As for diving in now, it is debateable, personally not enough hardship to secure the real bargains. Bear in mind there is no sign of recovery in the US. Merely specyulation based on optimism.]

Don’t rush yourself in buying a house, probably you end up regretting. If you can buy a house worth of $10000 today but the quality is poor then think a thousand times.
