If you all like golf, take a look at Bend, Oregon, USA. There are over 30 golf courses, and most allow the public to play. Weather is sunny nearly year round.

There are 2 ski mountains and 2 more within day trip distance. The US Olympic ski team and snow board team train in Bend.

There is excellent fishing, boating, white water rafting, water skiiing.

There is mountain hiking, technical rock climbing, ski mobile, cross country skiing.

There is wonderful shopping. Oregon has no sales tax and prices are low. My friends who visit from Britain arrive with empty suitcases and leave loaded down with all their purchases.

There are excellent restaurants with reasonable prices. There are tourist activities and festivals going on year round.

There is an award winning hospital. If you happen to be unfortunate, it's nice to have access to top quality care.

There are strict laws protecting residential real estate purchasers, with cheap title insurance. There is political stability and Bend has an extremely low crime rate. Your title to your purchase will be secure.

With the weak dollar, prices should be very attractive to people paying with pounds or euros.

If you want a place to vacation, there are condos in a huge range of prices or even partial ownerships availabe.

Time shares on the secondary market are extrememly cheap (because nobody wants them ). If a time share fits your schedule, don't buy from the time share company, buy on the secondary market. I've seen time shares sell for $500-$1,000 at a very nice resort.-- that is true for the entire USA, by the way.

The locals in Bend are friendly, and think a foreign accent is charming. You will be made to feel welcome.

We are thinking of buying a footprint at Vipingo Ridge, just north of Mombasa - we didn't buy in the first phase because we had our eye on a specific spot as we are buying for ourselves as well as investment. Prices certainly have risen so far. We have visited the site twice and it is 2000 acres in a superb elevated location with views over the Indian Ocean to the east and rolling hills of the interior in the west. As well as a planned 36 holes of golf, there is a nature reserve and it has its own airstrip, plus a beach resort. I think that it could be a great investment in the long term. However, the current unrest in Kenya following the elections may put off oversees buyers in the short term.

We wanted a winter sun destination with good golf and lots of other things to do for the family. The development has a solid financial backing - 18 months of development before they started selling and is in a beautiful spot.
We are chuffed to bits with our 'investment' in Kenya thus far, and hope that it soon becomes more than an investment but a really lovely place to stay, easy to rent out and perhaps one day, a home!
