Thumbs up Location

Hi Gregs100
I wouldnt worry to much about your investment as it is in very good health and is in a great location...
there is a shortfall of property in Romania that will take years to catch up, so renting shouldn't be to much of a problem. I shall send some details to you over the next few days about who I used for renting and furnishing.
Will keep you posted....

Hi, I am also a first time buyer in Romania (Greenfields). Over the last few days, a big TV company *** has been badgering me to pay over 11K in euros to furnish a one bedroom flat. The another cold call came from Furniture Direct Worldwide who said they would do the job for under 7K in euros. But, as you say, they dont accept credit cards. I have asked them for references (as they say they supply all the big estate agents), and they say they will come back with something. However, I am feeling distinctly uneasy and would really value all the help I can get in this matter.
As I keep pointing out to both sellers, furniture in Romania should be cheap compaired to the UK. I had a recent flat furnished in Greenwich, and it cost less than £2500.00 (and it was certainly not naff quality).

Hello shabir11
When will it be ready for furnishing ? Have ye done the snagging list yet or are your agents doing it ?
Well i would go out there and do it myself to be honest. I sure you have seen Bucharest. Its a thriving city. I think Ikea is there also.
There is plenty of choice and you could save thousands. Bu if time is an issue than i believe some of the previous posts may help you. Send them a PM and you may get some more info

Hi,thanks for the reply. Never been to Romania. Perhaps I should. Be a holiday at least. The thing that stops me is going to a place with no contacts. Will it be worth economically to do so? (i.e. flights, time away from the job, hotel costs, taxis etc). I am wondering if paying *** the 11 grand would just be worth it in the end. At least they will install it and then there will be no worries. Furniture Direct Worldwide may not be all kosher, and it may be that looking for a saving of 4000 euros, I lose the whole 7000.

Hi Shabir,

Good to see we're not the only one's in the same boat as we're in exactly the same situation as yourself...eg. EUR 11K paying over the odd's against EUR 7K with a company that has yet to satisfy me they are genuine.

I have asked FD to provide me with various info including a reference of someone that I could speak to who has purchased via them and is willing to back up what they are saying....after all they fitted 2000 properties last year so it shouldn't be too difficult! Names on web-sites don't mean bugger all to me.

I was advised yesterday that a previous customer will contact me, but they've yet to do so. If they do I've got a list of questions that I want verifying if they do call me as it would be quite easy to get a friend or colleague to make the call.

I've also mailed a number of companies in Bucharest that seem to be able to put together a furniture package of some sort as like you I don't fancy the idea of trying to do it myself. Buying some cups , tea-towels , cutlery etc is fine....but fitting a kitchen and buying everything else in a few days etc is a big ask and the logistics would be a mare.

I'm waiting to hear back with prices etc and hoping that FDI Queen who posted above will come up with some useful contacts / info as well as it's always nice to get a recommendation etc.

I'll drop you my contact details via a PM on here so perhaps we can keep each other informed on any developments and share any useful info on what each other are being told.....I think at the moment it's just a case of seeing what we hear over the next week or so.

Best Regards

very nice to hear from you Greg100. I will certainly appreciate your help and information. I will also do some research and share information with you. There may be others who may want to jump on board.
I think it would be extremely risky to transfer money to Furniture Direct Worldwide via a bank account. There simply isnt enough security information. At the very least, they should be able to take money via a credit card, and if they cannot, there must be something seriously wrong.
