Wholly agree with Damian George and would add...

Fiji Rental Income Tax ranges from 15.5% to 21.2% dependent upon income achieved.

Also, foreigners can only rent property through a company which must have a local holding 51% of the shares.

Of course, there are ways round this but they are very risky.

Maybe a better bet would be Hilton Rarotonga Resort & Spa, Cook Islands.

least there is a name you could trust and the chance of a return through a rental guarantee.

I was seriously considering Fiji. It's beautiful, the weather is good (out of the hurricane path), it's close enough to Australia to be a good tourist destination, and really super property is very attractively priced.

Then I got to the part about 2 very recent coups and the political uncertainty, and I decided against.

The trouble with new political rulers who took power by force is that they start to look around and want to maximize their income from their newly stolen country. That is sometimes not a good situation for land owners, and particularly foreign investors.

The latest coup was VERY recent.

I am thinking I might watch Fiji for a few years and if it looks like the political situation is stable, then I might invest. It is a truly gorgeous place.

Default Fiji is still Beautiful
Fiji had its time of crisis, but it was when it was. Now everything is solved and peaceful. The wonderful sunshine, beautiful white sandy beaches and friendly people. This is a deal you dont get every day. Every country is unique with different people.So dont judge the people by its country. So come in today and have a wonderful time.

A coup in December of 2006 is not enough water under the bridge for me.

I love everything about the island, and I'll be keeping an eye on it, but I would not consider investing for several more years.

If all remains calm and the government turns out to be doing a good job, then I'd like to have a vacation house for myself. There's nothing about the island that is not to like.

Fiji is all about natural beauty..you dont have to travel to the end of the country looking for beautiful spots to enjoy yourself, however, Fiji is blessed with beauty and sunshine..So visit us today and do not let anyone change your mind.

Surely thats the risk you take if you decide to purchase further afield. You might wait 2-3 years to purchase then the price goes up ...and you still do not know the political undercurrent?

better yet - go to fiji on holiday!

buy a house in nz or oz and sleep at night!

Melbourne prices went up last year by 25%

Fiji is blessed with beauty. It now has beautifully structured properties and vacant lands by the sea, apartments with wonderful seaview, and all these are up for grab only on Webestate Fiji.
