Default Self Catering in Apartments in Hurghada

..
.
Why would anyone want to go Self Catering in an Apartments in Hurghada if there are affordable hotels.

Is it:

1. the extra living space
2. the extra privacy
3. the more friendly atmosphere
4. the ability to choose different food
5. the extra flexibility

or what ??

..

i think alot for going self catering is when you go in an all inclusive hotel you never really see the culture of the country. Oh yes it sounds good when you get home (i've been to Egypt) but have you really been to Egypt or just a Hotel in the sun. When in Rome do as the romans do, well I think the same for Egypt, try there buses at 10pence you can't go wrong, shop where they shop. then go home and you can really say you have been to Egypt.

I usually stay in private apartments whenever I travel because it's better value for money.

I don't take advantage of the services of a hotel - room service, daily cleaning, concierge, etc., so why would I want to pay extra for them?

Saying that, however, I have looked at doing Hurghada as a package tour and buying flights and accommodation seperately and the package deals always seem to work out quite a bit cheaper.

The fact is that hotels only offer hotel rooms where the maximum occupancy is 4 people and then you're all in the same room, Familes dont want that, an apartment gives you more room and there are plenty of familes today that consist of more than 2 adults and 2 children! I am a travel agent and know that there is massive gap in the market for families who want to travel to the red sea but are having problems accomodating families of more than 2 children and they also want the privacy of an apartment.
I know as soon as tour operators start using apartments they will make a killing!

Welcome to the forum

- thanks for sharing you knowledge
- it will be good news for the rental market
- it will be interesting to see how the tour operators select apartments to use.

Any other "expert" knowledge will be most appreciated on the forum

A lot of hotels do not like you to take in any food or drink into your rooms ,so that would be one reason why a lot of people may like to go self catering .Also you do feel a certain type of freedom in self catering.Space wise you are also better off.

The freedom of making your own decisions and occupying your own space is very appealing to a lot of people. I can see the sense in hotel holidays to find an area that you really like but having found it isn't it better to own it and make it your personal space? Many people with families in particular like to holiday this way; you are not regimented to be down to meals for certain times etc. With the high occupancy rates in hotels I believe that the apartment rental market will come into its own; the only reason the hotels do so well is that they are better organised and have a bigger marketing budget. We need a major holiday rental operator to recognise the demand and divert resources to the Red Sea resorts. I also believe there is a market for International hotel chains to run resort apartments under the aparthotel concept so owners get the benefit of their heavy marketing and high occupancy rates, especially at peak times.

I think the hotels are not interested at the moment ,once it gets cut throat they may look at running resort apartments.

Surely it's no holiday for at least one of the family if there "work" to be done looking after the family.

I don't think it would be that bad, everything has its ups and downs ,its just personal preference .I don't think it makes sense going to Hurghada self catering at the moment. The flights are dear but a hotel package isn't too bad,if and when we have the pleasure of cheaper flights it will certainly change the self catering sector.
