Are there many units left in the development you have bought on?
Thanks Deb and Rob
Hi Deb and Rob there are around 9 middle floor units left and about 30 ground floor ones.

Hi Alison thanks for the quick reply. We would be grateful if you could check which apartments are still for sale as I’m not sure how up to date SRE’s web site is. We have read through the posts on the Sierra resort and it would appear just the thing we are looking for, although at the minute it does seem a little daunting.
We have been to Sharm before, we stayed at the Iberotel Palace in Old Sharm for 2 weeks last year and absolutely loved it. Would going straight to SRE,s office in Nama Bay be the best thing to do, do they show you round etc? Is it best to ask to see Tarek or are there other people that can help. Do you have a PM address Alison as I cant seem to find one in your profile. We are also going back to Egypt again late Sept early Oct but this time we will be staying in Dahab at the Iberotel Dahabeya. What dates in June are you going Alison and where are are you staying?

This is the link to the other thread: http://www.propertycommunity.com/forum/egypt...g-sharm-8.html

Meantime it would be great if you could post a little about yourselves on the Introductions thread: http://www.propertycommunity.com/forum/egypt...ctions-34.html. It's a quick way for other members to 'meet' you both and help you with any questions that you may have.

Hi Deb and Rob

we have bought in Sierra also, a ground floor appt, Strangely enough we had a holiday in Jan at Iberotel Palace and really enjoyed it. We had NO intention of buying anywhere abroad deciding it was just hassle. We enjoyed Sharm so much that we thought what the heck let's have a look. We were impressed with Sierra and looked around a little but liked the position near the airport (hopefully not too near as the airport is expanding) and there is a finite anount of land and the area has national Parks at each end.

We left it for a couple of months (And a 10% price increase!) and then decided we would never get anything like this elsewhere (Spain, Portugal, or even newer markets) and thought how lovely it would be to have somewhere to go in the winter months especially.

To cut a long story short we went ahead and are quite excited by the prospect. Our boys will love the snorkelling/diving and exploring the region, as will we and we have a winter getaway.

We would hope to rent out but not counting on that at all, just in case.

It is a big step but equally, for what you get I think any risk is well worth taking. There is perhaps less risk than many may think and you don't have much winter competition if letting out.

Good luck!

Iain

Hello Iain

That’s exactly how we feel; we aren’t necessarily looking to rent the place out, just use it as a holiday home for ourselves and family. How did you go about buying at the Sierra did you go in to SRE’s office in Naama Bay. Has everything gone smoothly so far? Sorry but we have so many questions and not that much time before we go to Egypt. Hope you enjoyed your stay at the Palace as much as we did can’t wait to get back there again. I must agree with you that Egypt seems a very good place to buy a property when compared to prices in parts of Europe where you don’t even have all year round sun.

Hi Deb and Rob,

We visited SSRE office in Nabq bay and met Tarek and an assistant who show us Sierra and Sharm bride.

We then waited to think about it for a couple of months, a bit too long in fact but we had a busy time, and then decided to go ahead.

We are using Zeiad Yehia as solicitor (see leagl thread - he has just given a full explanation of buying in Egypt) and have had contact from the ceveloper as well as SSRE.

If you are going out and have more than a 50% chance of buying it may be worth organising a power of attorney whilst you are out there as it will take a day but much quicker and cheaper than doing it here. You could ask Zeiad about that. Fees for purchasing are about £500 but He may be happy for you to set up a Power of attorney as a precaution.

I think in the end ours was just a "gut feeling" to go ahead.

The process is not too bad so far but you should be prepared for delays and promises that come in a bit late!

On the up side you have a property useable 365 days of the year, at a manageable price, in an area that has outstanding natural beauty on land and in the sea and generally likeable people.

You obviously liked Egypt so I guess this would be a good move for you, just don't expect all to run 100% smoothly, maybe 75% !

Iain
