Default Taxi rates in Sharm

Hi all

Below is the taxi and minibus rates that are displayed in various locations around town. Sharm cabs dont use meters. These tariffs specify how much you should pay for each journey. They will try to charge you at least double but you can always take this with you or take a picture of the tariff on your mobiles and show them. Also ask to see the set tariff that should be displayed in their taxi ( very rare that it is ) ALWAYS agree the price 1st and stipulate that the payment is in Egyptain and not English pounds and is per car not person cos they will try that on.
The white taxis are cheaper than the blue.
I dont mind paying what I feel is fair but dont like getting ripped of so this will guide you to what you should pay.
Downtown is the Old market coming out of Hadaba down the hill.

Tip - dont agree a return fare. They will charge you the fare you agreed each way plus extra ' because of the waiting in between picking you back up '

Any ideas for Hurghada prices - the taxis have metres but seem to be ignored.

Also it seems almost impossible to get the air con turned on.

I found that if you offered around a quarter to a third of the fare the taxi driver originally asked for you will be OK. So, we were asked for 40EGP for one of our rides and agreed on 10EGP. You can also throw in a 5EGP tip if the guy is friendly and everybodys happy - lovely jubbly as the shop workers say!

Seems about right - the Only Fools & Horses stuff from the locals is odd - its very common but I've never seen it on the local TVs in the same way as in many European resorts in Brit bars.

Hi Kerry - that price was from the English driver I use most of the time in Sharm. I would imagine that the local ones would charge a lot more.

Hi Kerry her name is Allison and I will send you her email address. You can then make arrangements with her. She also does airport transfers ( £15 return anywhere in Sharm ) and day trips etc as well.

Hi all Sharmers

I have found a company that does tours and also airport transfers. They are charging me just £5 each way into Naama for 4 people see Sharm el Sheikh Tours, Excursions in Sharm el Sheikh - you can pre book them and send a deposit cq to a UK address or pay via paypal. I will let you know how we found their service on our return.
