This time last year houses in my street where selling for over £300k, we put ours on for £300k and have now dropped it to £250k and still no takers!

Ouch. Check out Nethousepricesdotcodotuk to see what houses were actually sold for in your street since 2000 as opposed to the asking prices you saw in the agents window and the dinner party chatter. This will probably make you feel a lot better. The market is heading south and you need to be ahead of the curve if you arnt going to be stuck with it. No time for emotion right now particularly if you want to follow your dream to Egypt.
Remember this forum says you can live well here for 600euros per month so even 200k will go a long way.

That site only covers England, Wales and Scotland. Typical!!

We have a few 'business' meetings when we are over, so if they go well we'll just be looking to get out as soon as possible.

Trust me. Everything is different over here. Even our bank notes, which causes great confusion any time I'm in England, which last year was quite often and I always just happened to have Ulster Bank stirling notes. Oops!!
