I would love to move to Egypt on a reguar basis and trust me I wouldn't even bother to look back as I left.I would certainly visit the uk on a regular basis but the hot climate with the very cheap cost of living would swing it for ME.
I agree it's not for everyone and to spend a few months out there before moving would be good sound advice.Remember if you are going to live here then you will end up visiting what some see as the not so nice side of Egypt, however on a whole it ticks the boxes for me.

That's good advice, SLG, although I can see that for people with kids and who need to work, it might not be possible for them to spend that much time 'in limbo'.

For me, personally, I've been an expat for 15 years already. This will be the third foreign country I've lived in and I have no family or 'lots of stuff' to worry about.

There are some aspects of Arab culture that I don't really understand and will have to learn, but otherwise I don't think I'm going to face any problems that I haven't faced elsewhere.

Actually the only country I couldn't adapt to was a trial return to the UK. It was awful.

You get used to 'being special' as a foreigner. This has advantages and disadvantages - you need to work on minimizing the disadvantages and playing up the advantages.

I couldn't stand going back to the UK and being 'ordinary' again.

It does sound very exciting for sure, low cost living but do remember the salaries are very low also to go with that!

Hi Lyndsay
No dates booked as yet it is just on our 'wish list'! We have now decided to shelve plans to sell our house in Spain and rent it instead. But we still have our sons house to sell.
If ours rents quickly we may be living there by April but there are too may unanswered questions yet to be sure.

Sorry Jayne! Believe it or not the only time in the Bull was spent on the internet. Even Nick and I only managed the odd 30 minutes or so to talk - the rest of the time we were both busy with clients. 16 hour days every day for a fortnight! I just want to sleep now.

There are I believe three private schools in Hurghada but I did not get to visit any of them. It will have to wait until I go back in April.

The kids... well it was mainly them insisted we come back this year for our hols and the prospect of owning an apartment there is almost too much for them to contain!

We made an effort, even though we were based in a resort, and got invited to a local wedding, an evening with the locals at a cafe and a night out at a belly dancing club where we were the only non-Egyptians ( a heated debate took place between the owner and our host, but once in we were treated extremely well).

If you like the heat and are prepared to make the effort with the locals, I think you'll love it. Good luck with the purchase

Hello there - Both Countries now. We seem to do things the other way round from most people. If we have an interest in something or somewhere we go for it 100%. Makes it much more interesting dont you think !, obviously there was a little investigation to the area but we think we will be happy with the purchase, a lot of people seem to be buying in Hurghada. So basically the Price & the Property suited us, as for egypt I always wanted to go but just never got round to it. It will be a wonderful experience for us and we are looking forward to the usual challenges and also the pitfalls.
Regards
Sue & Gordon
