Cool

Hi Margaret,

Good luck with your move, hope all goes well for you. Look forward to reading your updates and maybe seeing some photo's of your new home soon

What a horrible day it is here today! Pouring with rain and cold. Think I'll put the fire on and sit watching old movies all day LOL

All the best with the move Margaret. Look forward to meeting you in El Gouna soon.

Well the sun is shining as usual here and it is currently 35 degrees but the last three nights the wind has been horrendous in the evenings. Thursday we had a sand storm. My whole apartment is covered in a fine layer of sand. No point in giving everything a good clean until this weather has passed.

Hmmmmm rain. I remember that. I think

As I notice that you live in Cairo, so would be very familiar with Egypt, is there a good lifstyle community to retire in or is it mostly short term vacationers?

I will be arriving in Sharm on June 1st, so any words of wisom from you would be most appreciated.

Many thanks Margaret and very good luck to you on your move.

Hi Elaine,

I don't know much about Sharm as I have only visited once. We decided on El Gouna for various reasons.
It is not on the Sinai peninsula and is regarded as a bit safer. (I can hear the shouts from you Sharmers already, but that is what we have read).
El Gouna is a safe, gated community. It is very well maintained by a team of local people that I believe are employed by El Gouna town (Orascom). It has its own hospital which has a very good reputation. It has a winery and brewery!! It has a very cheap public transport system around El Gouna and into Hurghada. It has a beautiful marina and is in the process of building a new larger marina. It already has one golf course and is building another. When you are a resident you get a card that you can use in El Gouna restaurants and hotels and I also believe on the Toc Tocs and also in some shops. We have been told that there are around 10,000 permanent residents in El Gouna with 200 children at the local school. It looks as though there is a thriving community with young families, couples, singles and retirees of various nationalities, so a really good mix.
Having said all this, it does not come cheap but if you can afford it, it is probably well worth a visit. We love it and hope to enjoy the quiet life for the next few years. (Not too quiet though as there seems to be quite a lot going on).

Hope this helps,
Margaret

Lindsay,

Have you managed to sort out the logistics with your dog?

Georgina,

At least it is only sand you get covering everything. In Cairo the black dust is continual and when the sandstorms hit it is a nightmare.
Might see you on Sunday night in Smugglers.

Thanks to everyone for your good wishes.

Margaret

Hi Max, as I understand it, you can buy without going over to sign contracts, as most of us probably will. You will need to give someone Right of Attorney to act on your behalf over there. It has been discussed on the forums, but I can't find the thread atm. Maybe someone else knows where it is?
