My dad was in the RAF until I was 18 so I grew up with the fact that the family follow's the husband's work. There was a period of time when I thought it best for our son to stay put in one school (as I'd never done) so hubbie spent a few years away from us - lots of visits of course. I'd much prefer going where he goes than making him stay in a job that he hates. I keep telling him - why the Middle East...why not Canada or Norway or the Scottish Highlands......somwhere cold PLEASE!!!
Does he acclimatise quite easily ? The funny thing is, whilst in Egypt a couple of weeks ago, K. my ex that was with me, found it quite hard the 1st couple of days to cope with the heat. (He lives now in sunny Glasgow) He also kept complaining that his shoulders hurt, when I looked, he was actually sunburnt.
Prior to this, I had spent years trying to educate him that regardless of ethnicity, a person is still at risk, to no avail. He now slaps on the sun cream, so in the long run, its good he became burnt. I'm back in the UK now, and tho wet, I quite enjoy the temp, tho I do go every where in a top coat.

I'd love to follow hubbies job.......if only. Definate wanderlust by nature. My mums family were from Toulouse, so I keep saying its in my genes to bask in a bit of sun!
Maybe we should start a 'trade it' section.
Actually scrub that - it reads like keys in the fruitbowl.
Sorry

He's never really had to acclimatise Vix - he goes from one hot place to another! He does feel the heat though - just nowhere near as much as I do! As a medical man he's aware of the risks of too much sun - including, you might like to tell your ex - early cataracts if you don't protect your eyes (he had them in both eyes while still in his 40's and is now very careful).

Two more weeks to go and I'm really hoping for a nice cold, wet summer. As I've said before - I'm only praying for this in my own back garden - I wouldn't wish it on anyone else

Yes they do tend to suffer with their eyes in Jordan, never put it down to cataracts tho. Also diabetes, its the 2nd biggest killer after heart disease. The Jordanians do like the sweet, sickly pastries, and they're so cheap. But as for the sun, they think they're immune.

Hello vix,
Not moving there to live...well not yet anyway, but may go there several times a year as I love the area and Egypt in general. What about you...are you going to live there?
Cheers, Alan

Hello there,
What time are you arriving in Hurghada on the Friday, and are you taking over your apartment straight away? If I have time when I have checked in at the hotel then I may see you in the Winking Frog...what time will you be there till?
Cheers, Alan

No, like you, just for personal use. Think about living there upon retirement, which is not 2 far away. Altho, I keep getting drawn towards France, I just love the French way of life, and the climate suits me well.

I have a Sister that lives in Luxembourg, and it is really lovely there but property is expensive, so the Red Sea area was my best option at the price and the sun always shines there...although it can get too hot in the summer months!
