The Governor of the Red Sea in Egypt has decreed that the Red Sea will be the first plastic bag free Governorate with effect from 1st January 2009. This decree represents a considerable step forward in tackling the issues caused by excess rubbish and in particular plastic bags in the Red Sea.


That is fantastic news! And about time this country did the same. I'm off to see another part of the world underwater tomorrow so it will be interesting to see if there's the same rubbish on the sea bed as in most parts of the world.

Yes it is - I read about it on a dive site. About time as well. Sharm have been campaigning for a while on this subject.
