There is a one way flight leaving Luxor at 18.40pm via Cairo and arriving Hurghada 21.30pm at £28 each. The only worry though I would have Roger is if your flight to Luxor was delayed.

For others it is better to get a flight to Cairo then a connection with Egyptair to Hurghada as it is direct and takes about 50 mins and there will be more flights available.

I flew from Luxor to Sharm via Cairo and missed the connection - although the flight was on time it only gave us 30 mins to get off the plane and make our way to another terminal via bus ( we didnt have any luggage and ran ) and missed it. They did however put us on the next flight ( about 30mins later ) at no extra charge.

There is a flight with TUI on a Thursday between Luxor and Hurghada so if you took a Wednesday flight to Luxor with Thomson and than on the return just do the road journey (3 hours it will be better).

In the end though you only end up saving about £20 compared to flying via Cairo

It's cheap enough, but I'm not sure we would risk getting stuck in an airport in Egypt in late June!! The kids would be unbearable... and with a package flight there seems to be a higher risk of a few folks settling into the bar and delaying departure!

That looks good, but a quick search shows prices from Dublin to Cairo as more expensive than to Luxor. It really is difficult to get anything decent flying out of Ireland (Lots of sympathy required for myself & Lyndsay )

Hmmm... I really don't fancy that... although if it was only 30 minutes it wouldn't be too bad.

Thanks for all your efforts Queenie. I think we're pretty much stuck with what we have this year. Hopefully there will be more available next year

Hi Roger - no probs - looks like the drive down. There are quite a few new cars now in Luxor with air con so the journey will be more comfy thatn the old Peug ( not the type where there are no windows LOL ).
The diesel fumes in those old Peug really get down my throat - not pleasant.

That would mean an overnight in Luxor, which we didn't really want to do this year. I think it will be road both ways - thanks for checking it out though. I'm just hoping the Taxi has aircon...

Is that £20 saving on flights from the UK? A quick look showed flights to Cairo to be quite expensive from Ireland.

This is from Heathrow. British Midland have an add on but from Belfast only so it will be £360 Belfast - Heathrow - Cairo

Than the domestic between Cairo and Hurghada return is about £60 so you are looking at about £420 this way round just for flights.

If u stick with the Luxor flight return transfers between hurghada and Luxor are approx £75 per person. (Private transfers in air cond vehicle. Convoy times are 3 a day one around 8am, 1pm and than about 5pm)

Just had another thought - you could get the bus??

Leaves the bus station in Luxor at 19.00, 20.00 and 21.00 hours and cost around £2.50 each!

The station is located at the Market street back side of Luxor temple .

Hurghada to Luxor times are
10:00 Am
13:00 PM
19:30 PM
22:30 PM
01:00 AM
03:00 Am

and 40le each for a tourist run by Upper Egypt bus company.

To get to Belfast would be a pain, to be honest. Using the tour operator on a flight only basis from Dublin seems the cheapest way and the easiest of the not so easy options, but only gets us as far as Luxor. I have a taxi booked from Luxor to El Gouna for LE350 - cheaper (just) and faster than the convoy Or are we likely to be forced to join the convoy?

That is good for the Taxi and blimey Queenie thats bloody cheap for the bus may do this myself next time.

They normally ask foreigners to go by convoy due to safety but not sure if you can travel between without joining it to be honest with you.

Hi Egypt - bus travel in Egypt is dirt cheap - little tip though DO NOT sit anywhere near the loo!!

Some taxi drivers will take a chance and leave without joining the convoy and give the police at the borders a backhander.
