Default Thinking of moving to Delhi

Hi all,

My partner has been offered a job in Delhi in September. I'm weighing up whether to resign too and look for work when I'm there. I understand there is a demand for experts in most fields. Thinking of perhaps teaching or even volunteering. Just want to know how big the Expert community is in Delhi. Does everyone live in New Delhi? Is it really that big of a culture shock (we're from Australia) and how long before you feel at home? I'm worried that the heat might get too much over a years time. Do women have to cover up all of the time and do office jobs require western office attire? So many questions. This site is great but I'd love to hear from an actual expert and a few tales.

Thanks in advance
Bharat

Women don't need to cover up. You can wear indian/western attire at work, unless you are working in rural area.Sari is a very liberalised dress, it exposes lot more than traditional jeans/t-shirt

Bharat you will be able to find more local responses on http://www.indianrealestateforum.com/ If you have never been to Delhi, it's not going to be easy at all. 6 months of real hot summer. Traffic woes. If you manage to live in a flat, you could be safe. Living in a house is extremely unsafe. There are lots of oppurtunity in Gurgaon and Noida with some great flats/societies. But nothing close to Australia. I have lived in Sydney for years. If you focus on your job and manage to make some friends, it is going to be fine. If you want to do travel around, it ain't gonna be easy. Ask yourself why you want to come here for.

More Money?
Peace of Mind?

Well, if you have a decent job in Aus and happy with it, it will be better if yu stay back.

I know every NRI loves India. But then, then love it because they don't live here. Good for a holiday. If you want to settle here, you will have to make many compromises. Are your ready for that for the sake of money?

Enjoy

Hi Bharat,
I know what all must be going on in your mind.As relocating to altogether a different country isn't that easy.Well i am not an expert but would like to ans few of your questions. It depends totally on a person how long he takes to adapt to a different environment. It cant be generalized.About the attire in the office it depends a lot which organization you are working with.Though you are free to wear whatever you are comfortable with.Formal Attires are always appreciated it depends a lot on your own comfort.Whether you more comfortable wearing an Indian outfit or western. So you needn't worry on that front as Delhi is very liberalized on that ground.I would also like to recommend you to go through the blog-realtydigest.blogspot.com for more details. Incase i can be of more help to you without reluctance let me know.

Even you could find foreginers staying in Delhi with out any problems. The places you can visit in Delhi are Rastapati Bhavan , world famous Taj Mahal.
