What is Iskandar Development Region?

South Johor Economic Region (SJER) (Malay: Pembangunan Wilayah Ekonomi Selatan Johor) is the new main southern development corridor in Johor, Malaysia. The SJER was established on 30 July 2006. It is also known as Iskandar Development Region (IDR) (Malay: Wilayah Pembangunan Iskandar) after Sultan Iskandar of Johor.

SJER area covers 221,634.1 hectares (2,216.3 sq. km) of land area within the southern most part of Johor. The development region encompasses an area about 4 times the size of Singapore and 48 times the size of Putrajaya. SJER covers the entire district of Johor Bahru (including the island within the district), Mukim Jerang Batu, Mukim Sungai Karang, Mukim Serkat, and Kukup Island in Mukim Ayer Masin, all within the district of Pontian.

These are some of the happenings in Nusajaya City (part of Iskandar Development Region), Johor, Malaysia:

(1)Columbia-Asia Hospital commencing work by September 2007, a 70 beds hospital at Medi-Park

(2)University managed by I-Carnegie commencing work by September 2007

(3)Estimated first yacht will be sailing into Puteri Harbour at Nusajaya by December 2007.

(4)Detailed incentive package for IDR will be published by September 2007.

Looks like September this year will be an exciting month for all of us who's interested in the progress of Iskandar Development Region.
