There are plots in nice safe developed Germany or Estonia for 1,000 euros.

Bargains are closer to home than you think.

Iraq was a good buy just before Saddam collapse. Now the prices are higher, especially in prime locations.

Why does "investing" in Iraq feel immoral to me?

I know that's a tongue in cheek comment but of course it's immoral. A country in need of aid and some ******s on here are talking about buying up real estate from abroad and maximising profits.

Just leave them alone, they've had enough exploitation.
