Default Moving to Australia...what about my debt in America?

Hey all...
My hobbies and I are going to be heading to his home country within the next year or so...and I have a few questions about debt because I've heard a lot of mixed responses...
I have student loans...boy do I have student loans...some people have advised me that I can just "forget about the debt" when I get to Oz. (I'm not going to NOT pay my student loans because I think that is ethically wrong, however I will take advantage of some time to get settled and well employed). My question is...is that true? Other than my school loans, I don't have much in the way of debt...no credit cards, just one medical bill, and a car payment. So, I want to know, frankly, will I be obligated to pay these things when I get to Australia? (I am asking because I have heard a lot of mixed things about this and I just want opinions. I am in no way a criminal fleeing with a huge debt or anything so please, don't misconstrew this as I'm sure someone will...)
Thanks in advance

Hello Kevin,
You could happily "do one" to Australia and not be chased. I sometimes have people leave my properties in Spain owing me money, and there's nothing I can do to get it off them once their in the UK. let alone the other side of the world! I'm sure they will be delighted to receive something sometime, than nothing and never! US civil law is not enforceable in Oz.
See you soon
