I have just returned from Calabria, we had a fantastic time and purchased a unit in Jewel of the Sea. It is in a lovely are about 40 mins from the airport and the development is going to have everything on it from 18 hole golf, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis, mini golf, commercial centre, clubhouse, beach bar........ and more.

Prices start around €98,000 for a 1 bed but I am sure this is going to be a very exclusive 5* resort.

I have heard this golf course may not have planning permission, there is huge opposition to the golf course and it may not go ahead. This is a problem, as this golf course from a trusted contact whom lives in calabria as indicated that this development is mis sold as there is no concrete plans for the golf course. So far no golf courses have been passed, and there is no guarantee any will be passed.

So yes it sounds good, but is it true, have you seen the papers with the signed documents from the official sources? There is a big problem in Calabria as there is alot of misselling.

I am not having a go at the person who wrote this post as most things are done in good faith it is just alot of big companies are saying that it has golf or this or that, i have heard otherwise, and there will be alot of people out of pocket or disappointed if what they thought they were buying is not actually true. Be careful on this development.

I am waiting on going to contract now therefore am currently checking all the licences are in place before I proceed to paying my 50%. I did see a couple of the licences when I was over and they had also just confirmed a second piece of land to make the golf course 18 holes.

As soon as I have a copy of the licences I will send another post and people can mail me to get them.

The lawyers will not go ahead with a contract until all such permissions are in place and since I myself am purchasing I will be making 100% sure everything is legal and correct.

Thanks for the comment, it is important that people do make sure that they are getting exactly what is being sold to them. I have lived and worked in Spain for 6 years and have seen what can go wrong and be assured I will not be making the same mistakes as people make over here.

Yes see the licences, and make sure your lawyer is working for you, not the agent, to give you accurate information. Remember also licences can be revoked, so if a licence is in place, then there should be a project attached to it, so have a look at the project too.
I have personally nothing to gain by saying I heard that there is going to be no golf courses in Calabria, it is what I have heard by a real estate living and working there. They could be wrong, but do your homework.

The application for the golf course has been made but at this time has not yet been approved. The lawyers say that this will not be a problem and it will be approved but I wanted to know if anyone else has any news on this.

I would still love the site with or without the golf but still want to know.

I have only heard good things if you discount the mafia.

The Jewel of the sea, again is an ok development, there is better things, in better locations, from what I hear it is done by an Irish developer, you have some pretty good marketing, where as most the italian marketing is very bad, but the product is good.

So you have Irish people doing a project in Italy. We have Italian people doing projects in Italy, in better locations and prices, close to beaches and close to towns. We are keeping these quite close to our chests as last time we marketed them, another agent went behind our backs and took 80% of them!

More cautious, yes Jewel of the sea, is ok, golf would be better, from people who live there and work there they say they dont think the golf course will be done, the only people who know are the people giving the licences, golf course or not it is a beautiful area. Credit to the developers for doing something, it could not of been that easy for a foreign company to do a project. For building, licences etc. Hence why we work with Italians, lower prices, better locations, high quality etc.

Calabria has 5 or so years to catch up the costas .

The developer is a half Irish half Italian partnership, this is probably how they managed to obtain all the things required for the project.

Yes I agree the entire area is fantastic, the people are most welcoming and the beaches, towns, food..... everything is lovely and I certainly can´t wait to go back for more.

Are there any new routes mentioned for Lamezia Airport, Specifically Belfast/Dublin. It can only be a matter of time before Ryanair expand from Stansted, but does anyone have anything concrete?
