My name is Micheál Murphy and i live on the south coast of ireland.

I have just launched a website for holiday home owners to swap time in each others properties amongst themselve.

The is the first site of its kind in ireland (as far as i know).
The site is now up and running letsswapholidayhomes

My problem is, the site is up and running and i have had 60 paying members which proves to me there is a demand. I now need to start advertising to get to the next level of membership. It is my first time looking for business on-line and have no idea how to best spend my money to get quality hits. I have seen these sites offering 25000 visitors for 70$ but i am suspicious of the kind of traffic i might get.

Any advice or comments on the site welcome.

You are right to be suspicious of this kind of scheme.

I investigated them quite closely as it does - on the face of it - sound like a great deal.

Upon further investigation though, I read that the traffic comes from pop-unders. So it is counted as a 'visitor' even if they just glance at your site for a split-second as they rush to close the window.

I think a lot of it is probably also generated from 'malware' that infects people's browsers as well. I decided I wouldn't want to touch it.

You can't really go wrong with Google's AdWords programme. You are able to target exactly the search terms people are searching for and you only pay for real visitors coming to your site.

Try advertising your website on major search engines like Google and Yahoo. Also try to liaise with some websites (can be free ones) to add your websites link to their's so that traffic from other site can be diverted to your as well and indirect marketing of your site .

The better the marketing , the more people will know of your website and the more clicks you will get on your site

try to tell people about your web. Try to find blogs which are thematically close to the service you provide and make quality comments which are useful for people. The best places to try such stuff are the places with most visitors. SEO has many ways how to help you become more visible, but it takes a bit of time before you get some important effects.

Goog luck

In no particular order:-

Backlinks - especially when from sites in the same industry with similar content.
Blogs
Keyword research and implementation in metatags and content
Article submission (Qassia and the ilk)
Directories
Forums

Will steadily take you up the rankings but takes time and commitment.

PPC and overture are useful for early wins but be careful around budgeting and setting limits as it can get out of control quite easily.

one other suggestion is to make contact with estate agents who are offering rental potential to their customers.

we rent for our customers directly, but I would still be interested in perhaps adding a link to your website for customers who may want to rent out, or swap under their own steam.

Think its a great idea, and has been successful for a UK site I know of.
