Default spanish authorities

Dear,
If we are renting a house in Spain on annual bases and the children goes in private schools. Does the authorities know if you are in spain or not? Do you have to tell the authorities that you have moved in to the country so you become a resident after 183 days?

thanks for serious answeres

Hello,

first of all what do you want to achieve by not registering as resident in Spain?

Authorities might not know about you, but residency in another country might bring you some advantages.

if you own homes in both countries you are deemed to be resident in the country that is your 'centre of vital interests' - which means the country in which your personal and economic relations are stronger.

Well the law is now that if you move here with the purpose of residing, you are supposed to get a residence certificate within 30 days from your local Police Station. That is since March this year, when the residency cards are phased out for new applicants.

If you are driving a foreign car in Spain and are residing here it is illegal also as residents cannot drive non spanish registered cars ... they have to be matriculated. If you are stopped on the road you will be asked for your details, and may have your car confiscated.
