Default Worried about "land grab" laws.

Howdy y'all,

I've heard a few horror stories about the above & would like to know exactly what the real situation is here.

Are these usually applicable in rural areas? I have assumed that they would be impractical to enforce in urban or residential areas.

Also, do these apply in the Canary islands as well? I have assumed here that the local planning laws are stricter due to the fact that these are popular tourist destinations throughout the year.

Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

Cornholio

Hi Cornholio, I am not very sure about the rest of Spain but I would tread carefully in the Costa Sol area particularly Marbella and district. I don't think it has been given very much coverage in the international press but there is major corruption trials waiting to take place and a lot of these are to do with already built properties. Until these trials take place there are a number of properties in these areas standing unoccupied until the outcome of these trials is known. There has been rumour and counter rumour concerning the fate of such, demolition etc., so all I can say is be extremely cautious when exploring these areas. I have to add that it hurts me to have to report this situation as I am extremely fond of the area and it is only a few of the areas officials who have brought this situation about. I must also stress that the men and women who populate these areas are equally enraged at these actions and doing there best to bring an end to the corruption. Regards. T

I would tread carefully in Valencia Communidad in rural areas. There have been abuses. If you buy urban land, it has already been urbanised.

Sometimes Land Grab is actually positive and rural land owners make big profits. But the media does not focus on this, only the bad cases.

Either way, get yourself a good lawyer. I have not heard of land grab in Canary Islands.
