Default Advice for Moving to THAILAND

Hello Alexander,
I'm sure someone there would be able to help. Wish I could give you some first hand experience but I'm afraid Thailand is still on my list of places to visit. If the country's as good as the food though, I'd probably be in heaven!

What prompted your (intended) move?
Many Thanks

I suggest you would just rent an apartment there or buy a condo unit rather than buy a house. I think you will find it cheaper if you just rent.

I think it should depend on the type of property that you need. List all the requirements of the location, type of house and your budget for the relocation. It would be easier for you to find the perfect home if you do that.

start off with visa requirements - the regulations changed from 1.10.2006 and you won't be able to stay in thailand for more than 6 months in a year doing so called 'visa runs' or get yourself a proper, long term visa.

You can get a retirement visa if you are over 50 and deposit 800,000 baht in a Thai bank.
Otherwise you have to keep applying for extensions to a visitors visa and they are making it difficult to do that.
You can purchase a condo but it's more difficult to purchase a house with land.
I don't think there are any restrictions limiting ones right to rent your property

Alexander, If you are still on the forum (or getting emails on thread updates) maybe you could come back and give us all an up date on how you got on. I am doing a bit of research on Thailand and would love to hear what happened in your case. I'm sure others would too.
