Default Where to start

Hi everyone. I've never posted anything on a site before so please bear with me. I am due to retire in 2 1/2 years (and counting ) and I was looking, intially, for a holiday/retirement home in Spain, but I think I have been priced out of the market.
I've never been to Turkey, but I know a lot of people that have and love it, so I thought I'd take a look at the property market.
My first question is, is it best to go on holiday first or on a property trip?
Where would be the best areas for 1/ prices. 2/ climate 3/ ex pats (bearing in mind I am a single old lady!)
Are there good rental opportunities to fund a property because I would like to avoid selling my UK home until I am ready.
I understand that Private Health Insurance is required, but I can't find out how much this is likely to could be.
I would be very grateful for any help from anyone.

Bethmol,Hello and welcome,

İt would be a good idea first for you to visit turkey, However on your first trip, please keep the idea of buying of a holiday/retirement home in the back of your mind, and please do some ( LOTS) research,

property trips are not aways easy, especially for (single old ladie's) !!

There are many areas that you could find re rental opportunities, some will say one area is better than another,
What type of property do you require, house/apartment,propertys vary so much in price, and so do different area's,

Private Health Insurance can be arranged both in turkey or the uk,depending on your age health.etc etc, this will depend on how much you will pay,

You could alternativly try for long stay Health insurance, this would cover you for the first 18 months,

Hi,

In answer to some of the questions raised, i believe it would be far more benefitial to yourself to go on holiday first, to such areas of Bodrum, Altinkum or Feithye and get a real good feel for the area people and culture. Whilst you are there try to live as though you do 'live there'. Iwould avoid going on property trips in the first instance until you have found the area, property that you are keen on.
The south coast are the best areas for prices and climate as this offers over 300 days of sun. Bodrum and Feithye are currently the areas that expats are retirng to as there is more life during the off season than such areas as Altinkum and Akbuk! Rentals are high in Turkey and more tourists are going for the 'villa or apartment' approach rather then the hotel. The reason for this as the holiday is in the main spent out side the hotel, in restaurants, and on the beach. As for private medical insurance, as the supplier of the contract what you and are not covered for. Some policies will offer whole of world cover as some will not. If you require any assistance in your search pleasedo not hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards,

Ryan Blanche

Smile reply to your question on buying in turkey

my advise to you is to go on holiday to turkey and to buy somewhere near to the airport as noone wants long transfers once they get off the plane, take it from me I have an 18 year travel backround and have worked in turkey for many years, lots of devlopers now are in altinkum and bodrum both of which I have worked in as I said for many years and if you want to get hassled all the time by people trying to get you in shops bras and restaurants then this is what you will get ,try dalaman or sarigerme as property prices there are really good at the moment depending on what you want you never get hassled and its only 10 mins from the airport so no long transfers, the first of four golf courses is under construction in sarigerme and dalamans new marina is being started in october of this year so to get the best prices before you retire would be the best time to invest this way you are making an good income on your property before you actually retire and you have bought before the place is established there is also a shortage of rented properties in the area so you could rent it out without a problem,if you need some help to look for reputable agents, contact me personally where i would be happy to help you.

Hi,
Which destination one should invest should be related to how much they are willing to spend. Kusadasi and Didim are very cheap to buy a property from, while Bodrum, Fethiye, Gocek are more virgin areas where the house prices are higher. Cesme is also a destination that is prefered by people who would like to buy a retirement home as it is close to many large hospitals which has good reputation in Turkey. The prices start from £50.000 as it is very close to many amenities located in Izmir.

Come on now folks!
Bonnie66 - Dalaman and Sarigerme - you never get hassled?!! Of course you do! Hassling is a part of Turkish culture and has always and will always exist - ALL OVER Turkey - even in the non-touristic areas...it's just that in some coastal resorts the workers take it too far and that, I agree, is unacceptable....but this will include Dalaman as well.....maybe you are known that's why the hasslers leave you alone... However on a positive note, I have seen the Zabita (council police licencing staff) handing out big fines to hasslers (mainly restaurants and bars) in the area where I live......so lets hope this tactic will have the desired effect....in fact, as I read this thread it could be interpretted as hassling over the internet......as you all put in your pennies worth about where this lady should buy......(probably where you have agencies)....
Bethmol, in my opinion, TH4S and Cymrusolutions have answered your question....definitely holiday first....and don't even entertain the idea of buying a place until you have been to Turkey a few times.......and as you may have read in the national Turkish press....probably in the UK by now....be VERY careful who you buy from.....

Good Luck in finding your chosen destination and in the meantime, enjoy your non-committing holidays!

Sunny Days

Default Crackdown on hasslers

Officials today radically stepped up their crackdown on hasslers by threatening to close businesses for between five and 20 days.
Didim Head Official Ali Katırcı said business managers that hassled tourists would face swift and severe penalties.
The council has been stung into action after pictures were run in the Voices newspaper and Turkish nationals of tourists being hassled within days of the season starting several weeks ago on Didim`s beaches.

Mr Katırcı said business would be shutdown for five days for a first offence, ten days for a second time and 20 days for a third offence.

Voices Newspaper Altinkum Didim Turkey - Shutdown!

The same happened here last year. they soon stopped,

Default Choose an agency in your country that you can trust

Hi,
I personally believe choosing an estate agent working in your own country is the safest. You can get a guarantee from them that nothing would go wrong and in case of any problem, you can directly knock on their door, instead of searching for a person that stole your money in another country.
