Default Introducing myself - Tim, ethical estate agent in Side

I have just joined this forum and I thought I would introduce myself. I am Tim Millea originally from Huddersfield, England

Agents of overseas properties generally expect a minimum of 10% from the seller.Turkish agents take this, add ten to thirty thousand Pounds to the seller's price and charge the buyer 3% of the total 'agency fee'! I abhor these practices which I have experienced trying to sell my own property and which are not conducive to the long-term health of the Turkish property market.

We get many buyers of off-plan property coming to us trying to sell at a profit before their final payment is due. I realised they come to us because they are not prepared to pay other agents' commission. Too many times they have paid absolute top-prices for off-plan property when, had they come to us, we could have found similar and often better-located properties, already-built, at near half the price, agreed a similar payment plan and kept everyone happy, except the greedy developers and/or intermediaries they chose to do business with. These owners will have to wait many years before their 'investment' is worth what they paid for it. Caveat emptor - buyer beware.

That looks like enough of a rant to get this thread going.

Have a look at our web site for more.

Feel free to quiz me on all things property, especially in and around Side. I have also bought and sold my own properties as well as renovated two old houses, bought land and built apartments on it, set up my own company, employed staff and dealt with every possible aspect of the incredible bureaucracy! In three years of living here I feel like I have been through the mill.

Regards,

Tim,
Advertising your company is all well and good, so long as its kept to the rule's,

There are lots of agent's that have property at.£30.000 and under,!!
Please do not paint agents in the UK or Turkey with the same brush,

Moderators, I think your editing of my sincere introduction has been over-zealous.

Am I not even allowed to state my previous profession in the UK? Or the name of the company I have battled for almost a year with the authorities to set up?

I have many a had earned lesson in Turkey and my knowledge and experience would be potentially very valuable to the other members.

Do you alienate all would-be contributors members like this?

firstly tim welcome to the forum, where do you get your figures from we work on commission for many a developer and we set the rate, we would never set it at 10%. We too have properties at around £27k if we added the charges you are saying there would be nothing left.

Tim - In defence of Bob and Tommy, from my position in the international sales marketplace (Property Showrooms), we get approached 6 - 10 times a day from all manner of agents and developers in Turkey offering potential "deals" to get us to market their product. Two points I wish to make is that a) if the forum rules allowed links to web sites from every agent, the forum would deteriorate to no more than a free advertising site, and, b) other than the likes of Parador and the "M" company, I´m not aware of anybody demanding the sort of mark-ups you refer to. If anything, it is the developers who try to tempt agents by vast overpricing to account for a ridiculous level of commission.

I am certain nobody intended any offence by their comments - nor you by yours. Side is a beautiful area, and anybody genuinely interested in taking advantage of your services is able to send you a pm in order to request details of your web site.

Good luck and welcome to the forum

Andy

I read that I should use my first post to introduce myself and that I should declare any interest in any property business. I tried to do this in an honest and sincere way. What was posted (as being from me) did not resemble hat I had said.

If the forum is inundated with agents selling their wares as others say then I can better understand, but not accept, the subsequent distortions and censorship.

I was a research scientist and university lecturer in the UK and editing other writers' works was routine. An editor should never change the meaning of the material being edited.

Tim.
