Default Yes, the election is over!!

Hi deede
The election is finished, and the AKP party has won the election getting %47 of the votes which was a big victory for them.
Meaning of that, everything is going to be as before.

At AKP headquarters on election night the crowd was calling for Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul to become president, but it was his nomination that sparked this whole crisis in the first place.

He is a devout Muslim and his wife wears the Islamic headscarf.

It is not clear how the staunchly secularist military will react to the re-election of the AKP.

During the deadlock over the presidency, the army said it was prepared to step in to defend Turkey's secular system.

According to the BBC News website (sorry but I'm not allowed to post the link to the actual article yet) says that the previous government has been returned to power with a slightly reduced majority.

I would imagine that this is pretty good news for the property market as it has certainly been doing well during the time that this government has been in power to date (since 2002).

I've read reports that the Turkish market has been in a 'wait and see' position over the past couple of months with prices falling in some areas (again, I'm not allowed to give you a link to the actual article yet). Hopefully now the status quo has resumed, prices will go back to rising again.

The AKP party are the first party to bring economic stability to Turkey. They paved the way for foreign buyers to buy property in Turkey. Without economic stability, homeowners and expats position would be very different indeed (more risky). Investors have benefitted from this government and their investments are safer with this government than any other majority government. There has been much interest (and indeed, movement of businesses into Turkey) from multi-national companies in bringing business to Turkey (especially Istanbul) since this government got into power - again fuelled by the economy created since AK party got in. Anyone who lived here before their time will remember the instability in this country - a price of bread changed daily... let alone the bigger items in life.

The AKPARTY welcomes multi-culturalism; encourages the wide learning of English and other European languages and IT within the country (making it easier for non-native speakers to live in the country) They encourage councils to provide public English courses at very cheap prices for "normal" people - something that was well out of their economic grasp in previous years.

I'm sure many of the other parties claim to do all this now in their manifestos (haven't read them) but their track records show that this is not the case. Anyone remember some of the traumas the country went through in the late 90s? The current government has turned this country around....in my opinion, its a far better place to live than the UK (supposedly with one of the the most desired democratic bureacracy's in the world)....OK so there's no NHS or Social Security system here (they never helped me in the UK anyway)...the system is great for non-working people but people on a good wage, paying in tonnes of NI every month (that was me - a right mug)...better change the subject....

OK, so the Turkish President is a Muslim. Tony Blair (I know he's gone now) is a Christian.... there wasn't much press on Tony's religion in the UK but there is plenty of anti-Muslim media in the UK....(enough said on religion) - don't want to start a riot

When it comes to protecting the interest of the normal people in maintaining economic, financial stability in Turkey (foreign nationals and TC citizens alike) this is the best election result.

Also, whether you're for it or against it and whether it'll happen or not, the current government are the only ones who would have a cats chance in hell of joining Turkiye to the EU.....but that's another discussion.....not my favourite one but one very influential to investors in this country who are here for the money...

Hope this helps towards an explanation....politics is not a cut and dry subject...
Seems a bit tough to talk politics about such a beautiful country....
