if when moving to turkey are there any restrictions as to bringing in electrical goods as a friend told us we would be taxed on them,it will only be household goods like fridge washing machine etc,thanx

There are no problems bringing your own fridge washing machine to Turkiye as long as you have a residency permit. Otherwise you will not be able to clear your goods through the local Customs.Bandrola tax is around 18%,

Have sent you link for Turkish customs,To be honest it is not worth the hassle,

thanx for the info it looks like i will have to sell it all,ijust thought i could use it all in an apartment,i am coming over in august to lookfor a villa in bodrum and it seems very hard to find a removal company,i am at present in france,any suggestions? thanx again.

Hi Traveller,
I don't know of any removal company that will take your goods door to door. They usually take to Istanbul customs and you have to collect from there....not easy to negotiate even if your Turkish is perfect. Dare I say it,... back handers...
Not worth the hassle.....far simpler and cheaper to buy new everything in Turkey.

The "easiest" way to do it and it's not "easy", is to drive your own vehicle into Turkey, from France. You'll need a residency permit to get your goods through customs. You'll also need receipts for new items and especially mobile phones or anything in boxes. If you bring a foreign vehicle into the country it requires a visa (usually you're given 180 days) and then the vehicle has to leave the country for at least 180 days or stay in customs. If you are of retirement age, this does not apply and you can keep your car in the country permanently......

It's all a faff. As someone who has a foreign car in Turkey - I'd say don't do it! Planning to export and get rid of mine at end of its latest visa and buy a Turkish car - far less conspicuous and far less hassle.

A bit of a rant, I know, but short message is: don't import, buy here. SO MUCH EASIER!

Hi Traveller,

I totally agree with sunny days and TH4S.It means importing which is full of cost and formal documents to prepare.Firstly you should have a residency permit and then find a transportation company and a forwarding agent to follow up your customs declarations.If I were you, I would sell them in your country and buy new ones which is approximately £2500-£3500 for whole furniture including white goods, beds,seating groups,other details.
And I can suggest you a few properties from Bodrum if you are interested in.

As soon as I do it, you can see the web sites and have all needed information.
And one of our home owners will do the same thing like you to receive a few personal things from UK.I will be there to help him so maybe it will be better to tell you what processes we have followed after doing it.

Are you looking only for Bodrum, can it be any other seasides?

Where is there information on importing and keeping a car here permanently if one is retired? We are retired and were told this is not possible. All cars brought in are subject to the 6-month rule as far as we and other retirees who bring their cars in from Europe know.
