Default Turkey Viewing trip - Altinkum

Hi, I'm new to this forum. Firstly want to say what a great resource of information and exchanges here.

With the great expertise and experience of this forum I'm sure someone will be able to point me in the right direction...
I wanted to ask if any of you know the best way to go about doing a viewing trip to Turkey. My situation is I've reserved an off plan property in Altinkum through a UK based company and have about a month to do a viewing of area and see developers other work and if I don't like either can pull out.

I was wondering are there any daily flights to Bodrum from UK? (preferably Midlands based airports)
From what I could find there seems to be 1 week flights -which seems a bit too long for me..
I know Turkish Air fly to Bodrum via Istanbul but that seems a longer route.
If I do have to stay a week - the packag(ed) holidays seem almost the same price as flights alone.

Also what things should I check the developer complies with in Turkey new builds? And how do I find out of I am over paying? i.e. are foreigners such as British over-paying for property in Turkey. I'd like a comparison to see what locals would pay in Altinkum and other areas. Also be interested in knowing land only prices. Anyway, hope to be there next month. Thanks

CH1,
Why did you not view the area and see developers work before resevering a property.!and you could have asked a few brits in the area the prices,

Depends on who is doing the selling,

This is what the travel agents do,they would rather sell a package than a flight only,

There are direct flights from the uk.to Bodrum and Izmir airports,

Well I would of if there was time, prices went up in a few weeks after release -hence the reason for my post -to view now...within a month of reserving.

As regards to prices sold just wondered if there is an official registry of actual land/houses prices sold -i.e a database where one can check up 'sold' prices like in UK.

I'm just trying to find direct flights where one doesn't have to stay the entire 7 days, so far not found any flights which allow less than 7 day travel -hence my thoughts of using a travel agent packag(ed) accomm.

Thank you for your reply.

Default Some ideas

I would suggest you book a one way ticket you can fly direct to bodrum, or go in via Istanbul I have been able to book one way on most week days I prefer Thursday evenings or Friday (long wii kender) midlands london cardiff bristol manchester have regular flights. Go have a look at what you've signed up to ????

Come back and give further thought and discussion!!!!

Bodrum is an excellent part of Turkey - people are great - landscape wow - great cuisine - but are there any other options or do you look at a variety of options

Richard

Hi Ch1, not trying to put you off Altinkum but have you thought about moving up the coast a bit to Kusadasi or Didem, you will get more for your money and with not as much building work going on you will be able to liase better with any builders or builders agents.
Just a thought and worth a look whilst you are over.

Good luck house hunting

Hi there

Will echo Richard's comment re Bodrum - great micro climate on peninsular as well as Bodrum airport being extended for all round year flights. We have bought two 2bed/2bath apartments there off plan in 2006

Regards

Elinor

Thanks for your comments.

I have managed to book one-way flights from UK to Bodrum for later this month -with Thomas Cook, so we'll see what I think of Altinkum.

I think the reason I reserved is the price seemed too good and apartment size quite spacious. I've been looking around various websites and holiday rentals people have advertised and seem to have fallen in love with Kalkan.

Anyone any experience of buying there, is it expensive? Seems in a different league to Altinkum or will I find such panoramic uniterrupted sea views with hills in background in other places like Kusadasi or even Altinkum?

I'll go with an open mind and see what it is I've signed up for..I know I probably prefer other places like Gocek, Kalkan etc...and this is without even visiting them just by looking at photos...so we'll see what I think in reality...and at the end of the day it will be which place is within budget and giving me better value for money as a first purchase in Turkey!

Default Just returned from Altinkum

Hi CH1, I have just come back from a viewing in Altinkum and have purchased a one bedroom apartment development for £21,000 I was really pleasantly surprised with Altinkum, there is a lot going on (marina and golf courses) and although I went out of season, the place was a lot cleaner and modern than I expected. Many of the local agents were trying to sell me apartments near to the centre of Altinkum with no facilities....I chose a resort development out towards Mavi Sehir as the prices were very competitive.

While I was there I bumped into a couple who were on a viewing trip with a major agent there who were actually not allowed to leave their hotel without a representative!!! Therefore, they said that doing it the way I did it (booking my own flights and accomodation) was the best way. In any case, I received a £500 refund towards the cost of my trip once I bought.

I reserved before going out like you did as prices were increasing.... I could have got a refund if I didnt like it anyway. I purchased through The Right Move Abroad in the end as they are a large company and were very honest about the market.

Good luck with your trip and let us know how you got on.

John
