I should think a search of the land registry or local council records should show if the land indeed has planning consent.

I think you should seek advice from *outside* of the company you are looking to purchase from, and that includes lawyers employed by the company, no matter which country you are investing in.

The question is not about just where to invest in the UK it is also a matter of when, if you have been watching the cuurency market the US dollar against the Pound sterling is terrible, therefore getting you a lot less desirable property for your money, as well if you have been watching the UK property market and current interest rates it may be better to hold of for now until both these money markets re-stabilise!!!. And then re-assess your financial stratergy in acquiring a UK investment property with a factual viability for your ROI. As for the right location in the UK for investment should you still like to proceed with UK investment property it all comes down to the same basic fundamentals of property investment look for future development of extensions of the metro, which multi national companies are setting up within your striking distance zone, what is your target market are you targeting the young professionals, families, etc. Good luck

Best place to invest in London . London property investment give your 100% ROI. Specially 2012 Olympics boots London property market. Bow, wapping, limehouse property market better.

Not sure if it is a good idea to invest in the UK, especially with that amount of money. But if you have some contacts to advise you, there would be the possibility of buying to let which is not easy to find elsewhere. Your £100 000
could allow you to buy a property (with a mortgage) and put somebody in it to repay the mortgage.

Default Building a UK BTL Portfolio

There are still many people out there successfully building UK Buy To Let portfolios. If you are just starting out it's probably best to start in a local area you know.

There are plenty of strategies to select from but here's a few:-
  • Buying in an area next to a current hot spot.
  • Buying Below Market Value at a discount large enough to allow a no money down deal or even equity withdrawal.
  • Buying in low price areas (usually in the north).
  • Buying properties with planning potential e.g. convert to flats or room for an additional property.
  • Buying the worst property in the best location, refurb & rent/sell.

Market Research is the key, there are no shortcuts i.e. hard work all the way, you can be successful in the UK!

This is an old post I know, but I trust that if you have already invested your £100K, you first made a plan to determine what your desired outcome was, then assessed the risk of the vehicles open to you to achieve that desired outcome. Was the objective:

1 Short term income
2 Long term capital growth
3 Did you have a target annual return on invested capital that you would be satisfied with?
4 Did you consider the risks and rewards of gearing (a mortgage)?

Without these givens, it's not possible to advise how you may invest £100K, but try to stay away from the property hawkers who would sell their own grandmother for a commission.
