If you are living near the venue for a major sporting, entertainment or cultural event such as London 2012, Wimbledon, 2012 Ryder Cup, Notting Hill Carnival etc..... you might like to rent out your home to the visitors.

We have set up londonrentmyhouse and Sporteventsrentmyhouse. A google search will help you find these if you are interested in taking a look. The sites have already raised plenty of media interest.

Sydney (2000 Olympics) as well as Wimbledon homeowners have found this to be a significant financial opportunity.

I would check with your house insurance people and also the local council before renting your house out, just a thought

Hmmmmmmmm, we all got excited about Ascot coming to York a few years ago and people started talking about £10,000 for a weekly rental and setting up websites to accommodate Ascot racegoers. In the end, the punters booked into hotels in Leeds for half the York prices and commuted to the races. The greed of some York citizens left much egg on faces.

I wonder if this might be replicated in London come the Olympics, with visitors commuting in from cheaper accommodation options in outlying towns and suburbs? I hope not for your sake and for my friend with several properties in E15!!

Maybe we should take a look at this in more detail on Square Foot the on-line property investor magazine? Any fancy contributing?
