I'm in the process of moving back to UK after my company moved the division to the East Coast (to save costs in these killer times). In all honesty the company has been quite fair with severance and I'm very much looking forward to returning home. I do not hold a green card (L1A visa resident alien).

US wise I will be paid US severance to my US bank account bi-weekly until end of May although I plan to move to UK in April.

I understand that in these circumstances, citizens and green card holders have to file the full years taxes at the end of the year, but resident aliens can file form 8840 and 1040C to break links at the time of moving.

I rented my house in England so I will gain some UK taxable income up to and beyond the move (and I'll hopefully have a UK job prior to the end of the '03 US tax year).

Does anyone know anyone in this position (or who had been)?

Any advice on this would be gratefully received (talking to tax advisers, it seems easy to find someone who knows the UK side or the US side separately but it's harder to find someone who really knows how one beneficial action in one country affects taxes in the another - someone who has gone through it may have a refreshing perspective).
